Domestic buildings A Building Energy Rating is carried out on your new or existing dwelling through an onsite survey or in the case of a new design by assessing the architectural drawings by one of our qualified assessors. A Building Energy Rating certificate and advisory report can then be compiled and issued to the client. This report will facilitate you in making changes to your house design to improve your rating and thus lowering your energy costs.

Commercial buildings We use the Non Domestic Energy Assessment Procedure (NEAP) to demonstrate compliance with specific aspects of Part L of the Building Regulations. NEAP is also used to generate the Building Energy Rating (BER) and advisory report for new and existing non domestic buildings. The BER is an indicator of energy performance covering energy use for space heating and cooling, water heating, ventilation and lighting.

Public buildings

From 1 January 2009, all public buildings with a gross internal floor area greater than 1000m2 are required to display a Display Energy Certificate in a prominent place clearly visible to the public. This requirement is a consequence of the transposition into Irish legislation of Article 7(3) of the Energy Performance in Buildings Directive.

The DEC for large public buildings is calculated as an operational rating, where the actual energy consumed in the building is compared to a benchmark for buildings of the same type, and shown on the certificate A-G scale in terms of primary energy. There is also a CO2 indicator which shows the CO2 emissions associated with the building's energy consumption.
The information required to carry out the rating consists of the gross internal floor area of the building and records of the total energy used in the building (eg electricity bill, gas bills, meters etc) over a recent 12 month period.
